Teeny tiny shotshell. Big close-range stopping power! The Shorty Shotshell by Federal is only 1-3/4” long, but it still packs a ferocious punch in the form of 15 #4 buckshot pellets. This shell is a great option for hunters and home defenders who are averse to powerful recoil, and its small size will let you effectively increase your shotgun’s magazine capacity without actually having to modify its magazine!*
This shell launches 11/16 ounces of 0.24” diameter lead balls at a velocity of 1,200 fps. That is a smaller amount of shot and a lower muzzle velocity than a full-size, full-power shell. Still, this is a round that can dump well over 900 ft lbs of energy into a close-range target – about three times the minimum recommended for self-defense – and its smaller buckshot pellets pose a lower risk of potentially dangerous over-penetration than standard 00 buck.
*This ammo will not cycle in semi-automatic shotguns. Some pump-action models require an extra part to feed 1-3/4” shells.

Q: will this ammo work in Mossberg 500 or Remington 870
Posted On: 3/8/2023 By: Robert Adams
A: Thanks for reaching out Robert! A Mossberg 500 will only fire mini shells if it is outfitted with an adapter. The OPSol Mini-Clip works excellently: https://www.opsolmini-clip.com/product/opsol-mini-clip-2-0-flex/. A Remington 870 may cycle mini shells reliably, but it's more likely to jam.
