9mm NATO is not analogous to standard pressure 9mm. Its maximum permissible chamber pressure is higher: 36,500 psi, as opposed to 35,000. 9mm NATO still isn’t as potent as 9mm +P – the king at 38,500 max psi – although we’d still rather you play it safe and only fire it in a pistol that can take 9mm +P. Why? Because we like you!
This round’s 124 grain FMJ (nonmagnetic) may lack the capacity for terminal expansion, but it does hit harder. Whereas your run-of-the-mill 124gr FMJ load has 330 ft lbs striking energy at 25 yards, the 9mm NATO has 359 ft lbs. That indicates a more level trajectory as well, which can help you line up shots a little more easily.
