Details
This 40 S&W cartridge from Federal’s Champion line of ammunition features an aluminum shell casing. Aluminum is great because it’s far less costly to produce than brass, which is approximately two thirds copper. It’s also significantly less dense than brass, which makes a whole case of ammo noticeably lighter. Aluminum can’t rust, either! (Which isn’t to say it can’t corrode.) The primary drawback, of course, is that aluminum is unfit for reloading thanks to its rigidity. But if you don’t handload, that’s hardly a drawback at all!
This round’s non-corrosive primer ignites its clean burning propellant to launch a 180 grain full metal jacket projectile. An FMJ’s place is on the range, not a life or death scenario, as it has a tendency to pass through a human-sized target without transferring all of its energy. On the range you’ll enjoy how effectively an FMJ feeds in a semi-automatic and keeps its bore unfouled by lead residue. If you’ve got a great abundance of targets that you need to perforate, then this case of budget-friendly ammo is the perfect fix!
