Details
Contrary to what its brand name implies, Winchester’s Service Grade ammunition was not made for the military. It was made recently at one of The Big W’s American factories, and it was always destined for the commercial market.
This 9mm cartridge is loaded with a 115 grain full metal jacket flat nose projectile (nonmagnetic). Its flat nose enables the FMJ to inflict more damage to soft tissue, which makes sense in light of the fact that the U.S. Armed Forces does not use hollow point bullets during combat (per the Hague Convention). Now, you would do better to choose a JHP for personal protection for several reasons, but that doesn’t change the fact that this ammo is better suited for defense than a conventional FMJ round nose alternative. At any rate, you’ll appreciate the clean hole an FMJ FN cuts through a cardboard or paper target.
Winchester doesn’t designate this ammo as overpressure (i.e. +P). That said, it is substantially more powerful than traditional 115 grain ammo. Its 1,320 fps muzzle velocity delivers a flatter trajectory and more striking energy on impact. It also produces more recoil, as well as more chamber pressure than an antique 9mm pistol is probably designed to contain. In short, this ammo would ideally only be fired in pistols (or carbines) that are rated for +P.
Noncorrosive Boxer primers. New reloadable brass cases. Twenty boxes of the factory-fresh 9mm ammo you need in order to train all the livelong day!
