By our measure, Ammo Inc. is a smartly managed company. The American ammo maker could have spent months and millions developing a new polymer-tipped varmint hunting bullet. But instead, they just decided to load the best there already is on the market.
This Hunt LR label 223 Rem round has a 50 grain .224 cal V-MAX. It’s a lightweight bullet – true – yet its sharp polymer tip, concentric Advanced Manufacturing Process jacket, swaged lead core, flat base, and optimized bearing surface all mesh together to make the V-MAX one of the most accurate bullets you could choose for varmint hunting with a 223. According to Hornady, the bullet’s standalone G1 BC is 0.242 – pretty much the same as a decent 55 grain FMJ.
The V-MAX doesn’t owe all its fame to its accuracy, though. What really sets the bullet apart are its terminal ballistics – namely the explosive expansion, fragmentation, and varmint death which ensue instantly following impact. With this ammo you can explode surprisingly distant varmints, too, because the V-MAX remains fully effective when it has ~285 ft lbs or more striking energy.
