Details
This 223 Rem cartridge from Red Army Standard is made in Russia, and accordingly features a steel casing. It’s got no business at your reloading bench, but its low cost means you won’t even mind not having to bother to pick up 30 empty casings every time you empty a mag. The casing’s neck and primer are protected by a layer of purple sealant, so this round can weather the elements naturally -- its non-corrosive Berdan primer lets it weather an extended stay on the shelf just as well, and will additionally limit your bore’s exposure to caustic residues.
This round’s 56 grain projectile has a tapered base, which raises its ballistic coefficient and in turn improves its accuracy and ability to maintain its velocity over greater distances. The bullet’s full metal jacket will most importantly prevent heavy lead fouling, but also assures it’ll feed reliably in your AR-15.
Although produced in Russia, Red Army Standard ammunition is provided by Florida-based Century International Arms. They make a lot of AK rifles, so it’s only natural they should also offer ammunition like what AKs are best known for firing.
