Woah there, hombre! Are you about to load some high-velocity 30-06 Springfield hunting ammo into your cherished M1 Garand rifle? You cut that out and get yourself some M2 ball ammo instead! It was good enough for our dads and grandpas who fought wars with John Garand’s hallowed rifle – and unlike the “Buck Blaster” 30-06 loads, M2 ball will not warp an M1 Garand’s operating rod. Nothing will make you feel like a bigger peewee than damaging a rifle that survived WWII.
Basically, M2 ball is just lower-pressure 30-06 target ammo. This round’s 150 grain bullet is a plain old-fashioned full metal jacket, with a sharp meplat, copper-alloy jacket and solid lead core. Whereas a modern 30-06 150gr hunting load has a muzzle velocity of approximately 2,920 fps, the M2 ball’s muzzle velocity sits significantly lower at 2,740 fps. That generates the lower chamber pressure which keeps an M1 Garand’s sensitive operating rod straight as an arrow, just like Mr. Garand intended.
You bet it’s reloadable! It’s fine for contemporary rifles as well.
