What’s better than hunting big game? Don’t even think about answering that rhetorical question. There is nothing better than felling an abnormally hefty deer in our book! And if your preferred method for tagging and bagging is a 308 Win rifle, Browning has already made your ammo.
This round’s soft point bullet weighs 180 grains, which makes it one of the heaviest bullets you’re apt to find in a factory-loaded 308. Its extra mass helps the bullet transfer crippling energy to its target on impact, and also carries it deeper into the target’s chest cavity. The soft point bullet’s jacket wears symmetrical notches around its rim, which provides little resistance to the lead tip as it deforms and fans outward to create a broad mushroom.
The soft point wouldn’t be a precision shooter’s first choice of projectile, but it certainly gives a hunter the accuracy he needs to accomplish his only goal. The projectile’s streamlined form and evenly distributed weight give it a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.382 – sufficient to deliver -9.7” drop at 300 yards after bolting through a 200-yard zero. Brass-cased and reloadable!
