This 357 Magnum ammo by Corbon serves two invaluable purposes. First, it’s a great way to hunt medium game when a JHP might not penetrate deeply enough to deliver a clean kill. Second, it’s a great way to “convince” wild pigs and black bears not to kill you.
This round’s 200 grain hard cast bullet is special. It’s primarily made of lead, albeit richly alloyed with other metals that make it way too rigid to deform or fragment apart following impact. That means you can assume it’ll inflict a 0.357” diameter wound channel. That also means you can expect far deeper penetration than any other type of 357 Mag bullet would allow.
To recap, the hard cast spends all of its energy punching as deep a hole into soft tissue as possible. Here’s the important thing to keep in mind: A hard cast’s terminal ballistics aren’t ideal for defense against human threats. It won’t deal as much damage as a JHP. It’s also basically guaranteed to go clean through the threat and hit whatever (or whomever) is located behind it.
Corbon recorded this standard pressure (i.e. not +P) round’s 1,150 fps muzzle velocity with a 6” test barrel. It is made in America with high-quality components, and it’s safe for use in lever-action firearms.
