Details
Federal designed their Punch line of ammunition for the average Joe who just wants their personal protection ammo to penetrate fabric and soft tissue – not for cops, whose ammo must be ready to defeat barriers as obstinate as car doors and sheetrock. As the result Punch is a little less expensive than Federal’s law enforcement loads, yet still highly reliable for self-defense applications.
This 380 ACP cartridge (aka 380 Auto) is loaded with an 85 grain jacketed hollow point bullet. The JHP’s jacket wears skives around its tip which weaken it for more reliable expansion at lower velocities; its nose cavity enables the bullet to mushroom outward until it is larger than 1/2” in diameter. Although this civilian round’s bullet has a relatively soft lead core, the bullet still penetrates to a depth of 10” after having passed through denim.
A Punch round has a couple big quality of life bonuses. Not only are its primers sealed for protection against moisture, but its cases are also corrosion resistant because they are nickel plated. Nickel is also sleek, which enhances a semi-auto pistol’s ability to cycle smoothly – a real perk when your back’s up against the wall!
