Do you prefer a compact or a full-size 45 ACP pistol for everyday carry? Regardless of your answer, Speer’s Gold Dot G2 Carry Gun 45 ACP +P ammunition will prove an excellent choice for protecting your person.
This cartridge’s Gold Dot G2 jacketed hollow point features the same electrochemically bonded core and jacket as its predecessor, the Gold Dot. The projectile is virtually incapable of undergoing core/jacket separation, which assures the effectively deep penetration required to neutralize a threat quickly, even if it is protected by thick clothing or light barriers.
The Gold Dot G2’s hollow point nose cavity functions differently from the Gold Dot’s. It is shallower, and filled with elastomer. The force of impact drives the supple material into the alloyed lead core’s internal fissures, which in turn causes the JHP to expand at a consistent rate and to a uniform diameter. The Gold Dot G2’s elastomer also protects its nose cavity from becoming ineffective as a result of getting jammed up with debris. The 200 grain bullet will reach a muzzle velocity of 1,080 out of a 5” barrel, although its terminal ballistics are still effective in conjunction with a compact handgun’s smaller barrel.
This ammunition is loaded with smooth and corrosion resistant nickel-plated brass cases. Its stronger propellant charges make the ammo overpressure – i.e. +P. It’s not suitable for handguns that aren’t rated for +P, and it will produce more noticeable recoil. The benefit? A flatter trajectory, and greater energy delivery to the threat.
