Details

Barnes has created one of the finest 5.56x45 hunting rounds on the market right here. There are few hogs or bucks which a 70 grain TSX can’t tackle!

This round’s bullet is made entirely out of copper. It’s a long bullet because it’s relatively heavy yet less dense than lead, but Barnes compensates for that by giving the TSX pressure relieving grooves to minimize how much contact it makes with the bore. The clean shooting bullet is of course non-toxic for compliance with certain states’ laws and also to prevent fouling of meat, and its exceptional toughness means it loses almost none of its weight as it penetrates through tough hide and muscle.

This round’s TSX is extremely accurate thanks to its balanced, monolithic composition, boat tail which is designed to reduce in-flight drag, and sharp tip. Loaded to a muzzle velocity of 2,850 fps, it attains a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.319 (G7 0.162). This ensures the bullet retains over 1,000 ft lbs of energy at 100 yards, and remains supersonic until around 750 yards – far beyond any point you’re likely to try to reach.

The TSX’s coup de grâce is its terminal ballistics. As the hollow point bullet dives deeper and deeper into its prey, it erects four sharp cutting petals farther and farther outward. Place so deep penetrating and wide expanding a bullet into whatever you’re hunting and you’ll have hunted it very well.

Barnes is based in the great state of Utah. They work in the mediums of new brass cases, non-corrosive primers, and clean burning propellant, all meticulously loaded to deliver unwavering results every time.

Please note: Barnes advises that this 5.56x45 ammunition is not for use in 223 Rem chambers.

A: Hi Mas. Thanks for reaching out to us. Since Barnes doesn't list its test barrel data on the website, I cannot say for sure which length barrel was used to get the listed velocity. I do know that the 20" barrel seems to be the one that comes closest to the listed velocity in all the tests I could find. I suggest that you visit the Barnes website and submit the question to them. They are some of the nicest folk you can hope to meet, and I am sure they will be happy to definitively answer your question. Ronnie
