Details
Federal didn’t load this 223 Rem small game hunting cartridge with just any old polymer tipped bullet. They chose Hornady’s world-famous V-MAX, which homes in on a small target like a champ before destroying it with instantaneous terminal fragmentation!
This cartridge’s tiny bit lighter than usual 53 grain bullet hits a 3,400 fps muzzle velocity when it clears a 24” barrel. The V-MAX excels at retaining that momentum thanks to its streamlined tip and jacket profile. The V-MAX’s AMP jacket and swaged lead core also ensure that it remains gyroscopically stable over long distances.
The V-MAX’s polymer tip rests on the rim of its thin jacket, and it has a long tail that extends down into the core. The tip accumulates energy while impact pushes it inward, until it finally connects with the core. At this point the V-MAX has no choice but to burst apart into shrapnel – terminal performance which any varmint or predator is sure to find bad for its health. The V-MAX reliably fragments at velocities as low as 1,600 fps!
This ammo’s Nebraska-made V-MAX bullets are loaded by Federal in Minnesota. The old company utilizes cutting-edge machinery to produce and assemble highly consistent reloadable brass cases, non-corrosive primers and low-residue propellant.
