If you’re a somewhat savvy ammunition enthusiast, then your instant reaction to seeing a 62 grain full metal jacket projectile might be to assume that it is magnetic. But wait just a minute! This is 223 Rem ammunition – not 5.56x45 M855 – and its 62 grain bullets are in fact nonmagnetic!
This 223 Rem ammo isn’t just a great choice for target practice if you want performance similar to M855 at a range which prohibits magnetic bullets. It’s a great choice for any kind of target shooting at any range in the country, because it is Hornady BLACK: designed to perform optimally regardless of the firearm firing it.
This round’s 62 grain bullet is a full metal jacket: lead core, gilding metal exterior, and a little cannelure to preserve seating depth under recoil. Its heavier weight does reduce its muzzle velocity (3,100 fps out of a 24” barrel, as opposed to ~3,240 like you’d expect from a 55 grain bullet). Its extra mass gives the bullet more resistance to wind drift – excellent if the wind has decided to complicate things during your range day.
Hornady’s bullets are partnered up with polished brass cases (which are indeed reloadable), as well as high-quality primers and powder. Any AR-15 lover will love this ammo just as much!
