Details
You like keeping things traditional. You know that deer haven’t undergone any major design updates since the 19th century, so you are perfectly fine hunting them with ammunition from the same era. You’re a 30-30 Win hunter – and when your lever-action rifle rings out, it means venison is on the menu.
This cartridge gets straight to the point with its 150 grain jacketed hollow point bullet. It’s not a sniper’s bullet by any means, but it does reach 200 yards with nearly 950 ft lbs of kinetic energy – perfectly adequate for any deer hunter’s purposes so long as they don’t aim like a dingbat. The JHP isn’t the flattest-shooting projectile, although its -7.7” drop at 200 yards after clearing a 100-yard zero means it does its job just fine.
The JHP’s alloyed lead core, contoured jacket and hollow point nose cavity are all in the service of deep penetration and broad terminal expansion. The bullet’s cannelure keeps it firmly planted in its reloadable brass case, and its clean- and fast-burning propellant won’t produce unreasonable fouling on ignition. Winchester Super-X – giving American hunters the goods since 1922!
