This round has a plastic capsule instead of a bullet, and inside that capsule is 84 grains of #4 lead. Those are bigger shot pellets than what your average handgun shotshell is typically loaded with. In conjunction with this round’s 1,000 fps muzzle velocity, #4 shot is certain to do extremely lethal things to rodents and other nuisance critters.
This ammo comes with four important advisories:
1. CCI’s noncorrosive Berdan-primed aluminum cases are headstamped NR for “not reloadable.” Aluminum isn’t as supple as brass, and can’t be restored to its original dimensions following ignition. Reloaded aluminum cases can burst and injure the shooter.
2. This ammo may not function correctly in lever-action rifles. Furthermore, handgun shotshells can potentially damage a lever-action rifle’s barrel.
3. A lightweight revolver’s recoil can cause this ammo’s capsules to shift out of their seating and ultimately lock up the cylinder. If you’re firing something like an S&W Model 642, simply load one round at a time to avoid this problem.
4. Do not fire this ammo in a revolver with a ported barrel or recoil compensator. Otherwise you risk a shot pellet bouncing back at you!
