Once in a while the government does something right. Want an example? The little ice cream sundae they’d sometimes give you with your school lunch. Want another? The 45-70 Government, one of the few frequently used calibers that has outlived everyone that was around when it was first introduced.
This round features its caliber’s stock 405 grain projectile. It’s a classic lead round nose, a rotationally stable bullet with the ability to deform beginning just after the moment of initial penetration. This bullet’s broad meplat has a lot of energy to distribute upon impact and creates a wide wound channel -- its ability to function somewhat like a wadcutter suits it perfectly for paper targets as well.
This round’s straight brass casing will not protest when you ask it to extract. Although a historically accurate load otherwise, this round’s smokeless propellant is a welcome update. No vanishing in a cloud of smoke every time you fire a shot!
