Details
As you might have gleaned from its name, Hornady’s LEVERevolution line of ammunition is intended specifically for use in lever action rifles. (It works swimmingly in revolvers as well, but LEVEREVOLVERevolution doesn’t have quite the same ring to it.) Because this 45-70 cartridge’s elastomer Flex Tip is relatively soft, it won’t accidentally ignite the primer it touches on the round in front of it while loaded in a tubular magazine.
This cartridge features a 325 grain FTX projectile. Very nicely, this bullet delivers a flatter trajectory than other comparably weighted bullets, which helps to compensate for one of the major shortcomings of the 45-70. The Flex Tip of the FTX streamlines its profile, and also initiates expansion over a wide range of velocities when it compresses into the core upon impact. This bullet’s InterLock ring delivers excellent weight retention during penetration, and its secant ogive profile heightens its ballistic coefficient for better accuracy.
