We would never speak ill of the full metal jacket, but its design does leave one fairly major thing to be desired. Because it leaves the lead in the bullet’s core exposed at the base, an FMJ permits scorching propellant gasses to aerosolize it during ignition. This wouldn’t be a problem if lead didn’t also happen to be toxic.
This 6.5 Creedmoor cartridge from Federal’s American Eagle line of ammunition fixes all of that with its 120 grain total metal jacket bullet. The TMJ’s jacketed base keeps its lead core intact during ignition, so you can shoot all day inside or out without inhaling all of that nasty heavy metal. A TMJ further benefits performance by keeping the base of the bullet intact and uniform. Along with its 2,900 fps muzzle velocity, that gives this this round immensely satisfying accuracy.
Countless shooters look to American Eagle for the reliable performance they need to make the most of their limited range time. These rounds’ new production and precision drawn and tapered brass casings weave in and out of a rifle’s chamber like clockwork, and they’re strong enough to survive the trip through a reloading press many times. These rounds’ non-corrosive primers will spark up whenever they meet with your firing pin, and their propellant is clean burning as well!
