Steel isn’t just for waterfowl anymore! If you want to hunt upland game on public land where lead is a big no-no, then we’ve got your new go-to 12 Gauge hunting ammo in stock. It’s Upland Steel by Federal Premium!
This round is loaded with 1 ounce of #7.5 steel shot, equalling 422 pellets total. An ounce of denser #7.5 lead shot would comprise 350 pellets, which is why this shell is due to put more holes into its target. Steel shot is also deformation-proof, which helps promote an all-around narrower pattern. And thanks to its lighter shot column, this shell reliably hits a high 1,330 fps muzzle velocity without producing above standard chamber pressure. That extra boost gives steel added momentum to compensate for its aforementioned lower density.
In addition to lead-free shot, this ammo features plastic-free wads. They’re made of paper, so they’ll degrade pretty quickly wherever they hit the gound. This ammo’s hulls aren’t degradable, but they are reloadable – perfect for making your own lead or steel loads back at your magic workshop.
