We’re not sure what “AA” stands for. Obviously Winchester’s AA series 12 Gauge ammunition isn’t going to help you quit drinking. What it will do is let you experience lighter recoil while you’re playing sporting clays and its half brother trap!
This shell exploits physics to reduce felt recoil in two significant ways. First, its shot column weighs 1 ounce instead of the usual 1-1/8 ounces. Second, its muzzle velocity is 1,290 fps. That’s not slow by any measure, but it won’t buck you too hard after every trigger pull.
This lite handicap load has yet another recoil-reducing trick up its sleeve: the AA wad, which features a hinged midsection. It compresses during ignition, but it also evenly cups and releases the #7.5 shot to promote tighter patterning. Winchester’s hard shot avoids becoming flat under pressure, because pellets that stay round also stay closer together downrange.
All of these fine components reside in a smooth black hull with an eight-point crimp and a low-brass head, complete with the Big W’s clean-burning powder and best-in-class primer. Maybe “AA” stands for Always Awesome!
