When you hear the number 420, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? That’s right – it’s the number of 5.56x45 cartridges inside a new Federal Premium American Eagle ammo can!

This is true military grade 5.56 ammunition, perfect for absolutely any kind of range training or target practice a handsome customer like you could get up to. Don’t look at that XM193 designation and suppose this is some kind of sophisticated and specialized ammo. M193 is just the code name for the most basic kind of 5.56 the Army uses, and X just means that this ammo was made for the commercial market. It’s brand new – not military surplus.

This cartridge’s 55 grain full metal jacket boat tail bullet contains no steel and will not attract a magnet. The FMJBT’s hard gilding metal shell ensures smooth feeding. Its tapered base helps retain velocity so the bullet can streak through the air in a flatter line.

This is reloadable ammo, with virgin brass cases and noncorrosive Boxer primers. You’re going to notice that the cases are a little darker around their necks and shoulders, but that’s just because military grade brass is heat-treated without getting polished up afterward. This ammo comes loose-packed in a high-quality steel ammo can that you’ll probably wind up owning for the rest of your life!

A: No sir, Federal Premium has packaged this product differently. This ammo is loose-packed in a clear plastic bag inside a steel ammo can.

A: Thanks for reaching out Jason! The full official name of the cartridge is 5.56x45mm NATO. You may see it referred to as 5.56, 5.56 NATO, 5.56x45mm or 5.56x45, but those are all just different names for the same exact ammo. This is exactly what your S&W is designed for. (5.56 = bullet diameter in mm; 45 = case length in mm) And just to be sure, your 5.56 rifle can also safely fire 223 Remington (aka 223 Rem or 223) ammo too!
