Look – it says “Wolf” in big red letters, right on the box. That must mean this 22 LR match ammo is made by a Russian company famous for its steel-cased centerfire cartridges … right?
WRONG. Pull out one of those rimfire rounds and take a glance at its headstamp. You will see a big “E.” That stands for Eley: a British firm which manufactures much of the world’s most highly regarded 22 LR ammunition.
This is a subsonic cartridge. Its 40 grain bullet never loses stability as a result of slowing from supersonic to subsonic, which makes it more accurate over farther distances. The lead round nose projectile has a rounded ogive and is treated with beeswax-based lubricant – both features which promote surer feeding.
This ammo’s actual muzzle velocity will vary depending on the length of the firearm’s barrel. Note that it may fail to cycle a semi-automatic, in which case manual cycling would be necessary.
