Federal Premium recommends this ammo for varmint hunting. We recommend this ammo for varmint hunting. Plenty of varmint hunters who don’t have a dog in the race recommend this ammo for varmint hunting, too. But do you know who wouldn’t recommend this 22 WMR ammunition for varmint hunting? Varmints.
This cartridge couples excellent accuracy and devastating terminal performance because it is loaded with none other than Speer’s 30 grain TNT jacketed hollow point. It may be small, but the bullet still manages to fit a fine-tuned long ogive profile and near-perfect jacket concentricity into such a tiny package. When it clears a rifle barrel at a rate of 2,200 feet per second, the 0.090 G1 ballistic coefficient projectile barely has to rise 4” above the muzzle before plowing into a critter at 150 yards. It is still supersonic and retains nearly 90 ft lbs of energy at that distance. And when the TNT’s narrow hollow point meets its target head-on, its internally fluted and precision attenuated jacket gives way to massive terminal expansion – or terminal explosion, to be more exact.
