This cartridge’s bullet is a conical lead nose. We don’t see that classification very often, but in all fairness it is a pretty basic projectile. It hasn’t got a jacket to decelerate barrel fouling, or any features that would have enabled it to undergo terminal expansion. The solid lead projectile simply has a flat nose, which makes its effect on paper similar to that of a wadcutter. Great if you’re knocking around steel silhouettes, too!

This ammo is designed to give you similar recoil and point of aim as the classic 38 Spl from over 100 years ago. But its South Dakotan manufacturer did include all the modern necessities: smokeless propellant, noncorrosive Boxer primers, and fine reloadable brass cases. This round’s 800 fps muzzle velocity was recorded with a 6” test barrel – expect a lower muzzle velocity from a shorter barrel, or a higher one if you’re firing a lever-action rifle!
