Details

This 5.56x45 cartridge from Hornady’s Frontier line of ammunition has an incredibly accurate 68 grain BTHP Match projectile. Its swaged lead core, Advanced Manufacturing Process jacket, and precisely formed boat tail all ensure that the bullet keeps its course far downrange, making it as worthy for competition as it is sending off troublesome coyote. No home intruder would like one of these bullets to greet them to your home, either -- they’ll wish they’d chosen a different home to intrude.

Hornady partnered with the legendary Lake City Army Ammunition Plant to build this cartridge. As such it’s got a rugged military-grade brass casing with annealed shoulder and neck, non-corrosive Boxer primer, and consistent charge of clean burning ball powder. It’s an affordable round owing not to any cut corners, but rather Lake City’s massive output capacity. The sprawling complex’s thorough quality assurance procedure has seen to it that this is a military cartridge from tip to toe.

A: Hi George! Hornady recorded this round's 2960 fps MV and 0.355 G1 BC with a 20" barrel. Based on that, I put together a ballistics table that you'll find informative. Here you go: https://shooterscalculator.com/ballistic-trajectory-chart.php?pl=%5BPreset+Name%5D&presets=&df=G1&bc=.355&bw=68&vi=2960&zr=50&sh=1.5&sa=0&ws=0&wa=0&ssb=on&cr=500&ss=25&chartColumns=Range%7Eyd%60Elevation%7Ein%60Energy%7Eft.lbf%60Vel%5Bx%2By%5D%7Eft%2Fs&lbl=&submitst=+Create+Graph+

A: Hello Billy! "BT" stands for boat tail. A boat tail bullet has a tapered base which reduces drag, conserves velocity, flattens trajectory and protects against wind drift. It's a good addition to a bullet that is intended for long-distance shooting; at short range, its benefits don't make themselves apparent. This ammo should function correctly in any 5.56x45 firearm.

A: Thanks for reaching out Wallace! This cartridge has a 2,960 fps muzzle velocity. Hornady recorded that figure with a 20" barrel.

A: Thanks for reaching out Adrion! This is factory fresh ammo loaded with brand new brass cases. It's produced for Hornady at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, which is the U.S. government's primary small arms ammo supplier.

A: Thanks for rreaching out Ty! This cartridge is not loaded with a solid copper spun bullet. The BTHP consists of a copper jacket and lead core. Like you say, the hollow point in the tip of the BTHP is part of its manufacturing process. The lead was poured through the opening in the nose while it was still molten, which is why the BTHP's lead core is form-fitted. There are exceptions, but this round's bullet belongs to the majority of BTHPs because it does not expand after impact. Its terminal ballistics are on par with an FMJ.
