FN Herstal currently makes two types of 5.7x28mm ammunition available to civilians: SS197SR, which is loaded with the Hornady V-MAX, and SS195LF, which is loaded with a lead-free jacketed hollow point and lead-free primer. This is a 500-round case of the SS195LF variant – effective for self-defense, and compliant for training and hunting in places where lead bullets are prohibited.
This round’s 27 grain bullet features a copper jacket and aluminum core. Its muzzle velocity out of a P90’s 10.4” barrel would clock in at approximately 2,550 fps. You can still expect a muzzle velocity in the ballpark of 2,250 fps if you’re firing a Five-seveN pistol with a 4.8” barrel. The JHP is functional, and will expand to inflict a wound channel that is significantly wider in diameter than 0.224”.
FN Herstal manufactures this ammunition in Belgium with new reloadable brass cases and sealed noncorrosive Boxer primers. The primers are silver-colored to denote their lead-free design.
