The 22 LR is the great equalizer. You may not have the budget to fire 525 rounds of 50 BMG, but you can sure as shootin’ swing a 525-round box of Remington’s trusty 22 Thunderbolt!
This cartridge isn’t a specialized piece of engineering. It’s a true all-purpose range load, which launches the 22 LR’s standard 40 grain lead round nose projectile out of a rifle’s barrel at a supersonic velocity of 1,255 fps. It’ll stay supersonic until 40 yards, reach a 50-yard zero with 106 ft lbs of energy, and then drop by about -5.8” once it has coasted to 100. The LRN’s terminal ballistics may not include terminal expansion (the reason why don’t label this ammo as suitable for varmint hunting), but it’s still more than peppery enough to put a swift end to any squirrel-related activities.
This is loose-packed ammunition: every cartridge all together in a single cardboard package. Open the box and you’ll be able to appreciate all 525 rounds’ quality brass cases. Fire them and you’ll respect their reliable primers and clean-burning powder just as equally.
