The 100 grain InterLock projectile on the American Whitetail .243 by Hornady is a consistent performer. It’s no wonder then, that Hornady decided to mate it to the American Whitetail line. Like the Fusion line from Federal, this is a deer season specific round that is made in a deer specific line by a premium producer. There is some method to their madness, however, this is not just a marketing scheme.
The 100 grain bullet weight is a sufficient projectile for Whitetail and the quality of the case, powder and primer all make this a high quality deer specific round, but the velocity and energy; the longer range ballistic zero for point of contact and the soft point projectile (again, the Interlock) retains a lot of weight at a good price point and offers significant deformation and terminal ballistics for the game in your sights. The wind deflection of the underlying caliber is sufficient to make this a true flying projectile given the 2960 feet per second velocity and the 1945 ft. lbs. of energy that is produced at the barrel end. The clean powder and Boxer primed, reloadable brass case round out this deer specific cartridge build.
