The advantage of Federal and Speer both belonging to the Vista Outdoor Group is that their innovations come together to make exceptional ammunition. In this case, the cartridge is a .300 Winchester Magnum load sporting Speer's vintage Hot-Cor soft point projectile. Hot-Cor bullets are assembled using static copper jackets which are filled with lead from the top down, creating a core of solid density and leaving jacket dimensions as precise as possible. The lead tip of the bullet is left exposed and reshaped to follow the overall taper for excellent flight characteristics and accuracy. Soft tip bullets promote massive expansion after entering a large deer or elk and transfer energy directly to vital organs behind the thick breastplate.
This depth is achieved using a locking cannelure which smartly controls expansion in order to prevent energy-stealing separation from occurring. Pulling double duty, the cannelure acts as a stable crimp point to a reloadable brass casing which is equipped with a clean-igniting Boxer primer. This construction stops the bullet from wobbling under recoil and affecting final precision. The 250-grain bullet is heavy for the .300 Win Mag caliber and carries useful energy out to further distances. Federal's Power-Shok line might be known for affordable prices but doesn't shy away from serving hunters that expect premium performance.
