I hate to admit it, but I've always gone for the cheap ammunition. I kind of thought it was probably all "close enough" to the same.

Then I got 60 rounds of this stuff for my new DPMS GII SASS. I started out with some cheap bulk 147 grain ammo just to get on paper. I cleaned the barrel after every three shots, walked all the way out to 100 yards, came back, snaked the barrel a second time, then shot. I thought I was doing well with the cheap stuff - I was grouping within 2.5 inches, which is about as good as I've ever done with the cheap bulk stuff.

Then I switched over to the Federal Sierra Match King 168gr HPBT and shot three. I was high and to the left, which really surprised me, but the grouping was amazing. I put all three rounds within an inch and a quarter! I cleaned the barrel, adjusted the scope, let the barrel cool while I walked, came back and shot three more. Again, I was able to get all three rounds within an inch and a quarter.

Blinding flash of the obvious: good ammo makes a big difference. This stuff is head and shoulders above what I used to shoot, and now I need to stop letting myself be sloppy. I want to get my groups down to 1" at 100 and work out to 500. I'm excited to do this over the upcoming summer! I am using the Nikon

I have a Ruger American in .308 and it is quite picky as far as ammo. I have not ever had a misfire from any ammo through this gun probably 250+ rounds but accuracy and group size suffers with the cheaper rounds all brands rem core-lokt Winchesters 150 and 180gr and federal 150gr even federal fusions. I bought five boxes of these rounds from a local guy (they were too powerful with his contender pistol) and I can toast a wild apple off a tree at 100yds every shot. I get groups you can cover with a nickel at 100yds on paper. every bit as good as any hand loads I have done. these were very consistent provided I did my part and the barrel stayed cool-ish. they are a match bullet so as far as big game hunting not a good choice but with the accuracy I got with them I trust a good shot would still bring a deer down. I will definitely keep a box on hand at least until reloading stuff gets back into availability. (Posted on 2/1/2014)

Yes, it is costly ammo. But with other ammo (PMC 147 grain for instance most recently) I could not get smaller than a 1" group at 200 yards. With the 168 grain Federal Sierra Match King I am consistently hitting quarter size groups at 200 yards with a S&W M&P-10 .308 rifle with a Nikon Monarch 3 4x16 - 50mm BDC scope at 16x power. I feel badly for the poor coyotes, deer, bear, etc., at the far end of the rounds. I will be getting this ammo again! Costly, but for the performance it is well worth it! (Posted on 10/10/2013)

Consistently hit steel plate at 1000yards with a 16" barrel AR10. Do not believe the nonsense that a 308 loses effectiveness to that range. (Posted on 8/27/2012)

This ammo was bought to zero my new M1A. And it has worked very well; no misfires or failures after 100+ rounds out. And although I'm no great marksman (the rifle is capable of printing better groups than I can shoot), the groups I shot were kept pretty tight out to 300yds.
