Great bargain hunting and target .308 ammunition from the Brown Bear line with the lacquer coated steel casings and the soft point 140 grain bullet, this is a real bargain for those that just want to shoot their .308 without worrying about their mortgage payment.

The steel casing and Berdan primer make this a reliable and easy to use round for semi autos in the military style that use heavy springs to extract/eject spent casings with extra force, but render those spent casings nearly impossible to reload effectively. The ignition on military style weapon clones is positive, with the best attribute of the Berdan system being that sure ignition with heavy firing pins. The dual flash holes and the larger amount of priming agent allows for very reliable primers. The process to reload these types of cases, with the resizing and the primer differences, makes it really hard work.

Steel is good in any firearm, but the better performance is out of firearms made with looser tolerances due to the lesser inherent lubricity of steel compared to brass, and the lesser malleability. (Layman’s explanation – steel is harder than brass so these cases won’t “flex” as much as steel).

The big picture here: if you have a military style clone in .308 Winchester this stuff is amazing ammunition for the money. If you are trying to make it shoot sub MOA out of a precision reamed tight chamber maybe this is not the best option.
