The .38 Special is still a viable cartridge for self-defense applications, and it has some features which make it very appealing to those wishing to fulfill their human right to self preservation.
First, it is a relatively low-recoil chambering when paired with a medium-frame revolver. K-frame revolvers, and competitors in that same class usually weigh in over 30 ounces, making them much beefier than their “Tupperware” peers of the modern polymer trend. This added heft takes the bite out of even +P loadings.
Second, revolvers have no accessories which have a “shelf life” such as magazines so you can put them in a zipper case and throw them under your truck seat for 100 years (especially if it’s a stainless finish).
So, should you choose the path of the venerable wheel gun (everybody needs at least one), you are probably going to be faced with using it in a confined space at short distances, i.e., in your house or a store. The best way to train for these challenging environments is to train in these environments (NOTE: do not shoot up the inside of your house or a convenience store. Go to a facility designed to replicate these). To prevent overshooting and lead exposure, SinterFire GreenLine is a line of ammunition tailor made for just this purpose. It is 100% lead free, and the frangible projectiles dissolve on impact with just about any hard surface, significantly reducing the risk of glancing and ricocheting.
Revolvers will always hold a spot in the hearts of many shooters, but it’s not merely nestalgia; they serve a truly practical purpose in a variety of applications. SinterFire GreenLine .38 Special 110 grain FMJ is a great product to use these firearms in their most realistic environments.
