Details
This 38 Special cartridge by Sellier & Bellot sports a 158 grain projectile, which is the weight the caliber’s bullet was originally available in. The bullet’s partial jacket stops just short of its tip to expose its core. This enables the bullet to expand somewhat as it deforms upon impact, giving it performance somewhat like what a hollow point would provide, as well as the ability to tumble within targets to create a wide wound channel. Its jacket will not only let this bullet penetrate deeply within targets, but also protects your pistol’s bore against the rapid accumulation of lead residue which would have necessitated frequent cleanings.
Its bullet’s ability to expand in no way limits this round to self-defense applications -- its accuracy suits it for target practice, and even for hunting in areas where hollow points are banned if you’ve got a carbine capable of chambering it. If you’re handy at a reloading bench, you’ll enjoy this round’s Boxer primed brass casing there as well.
