The .410 shotgun shell has always been something of a novelty (albeit a proven force too), for handgun shooters, and this ammunition makes it almost overpowered for the plethora of big wheel guns and single shot/dual shot derringers that are built for the .45LC round.
Note: the .410 fits in and shoots from a .45LC cylinder, but it may not be the best use in some cases. Use your firearm’s owner’s manual to determine the feasibility/safety.
Most .410 shotguns aren’t really built to serve as potent self defense firearms, so the narrative here tackles the most likely use of this round.
This is a very defense oriented cartridge made specifically to help drop a target in short distances, where you’ll need to get through tough clothing layers, and for where close quarters are a part of the equation.
A 750 fps velocity in a self defense handgun paired with the unique projectile makeup of the load which consists of three discs backed by 12 BB shot sized pellets.
Being an engineered cartridge, you can expect excellent ballistics and performance, and with the resurgence of the popularity of these hand-cannons. The proven history and R&D innovations by the maker (Winchester) give this the credibility it needs to be a successful round. Essentially: you’re in the lead slinging business when shooting these massive cartridges.
For a backup gun, a fun-gun, or for when you need to know that you are shooting the absolutely most tactical, heavy hitting .410 round you can get in the field (on medium game up close; in high quality firearms); this is the round. End of story.
