Barnes is known for producing very high quality and consistent performing ammo for when you need it most. This .45 ACP 185 grain +P TAC-XPD round is no exception.
This 45 auto round has a solid copper hollow point (SCHP) bullet, which gives it some superior characteristics when compared to your average hollow point design. The solid copper design is most noted for its excellent weight retention when compared to a lower end traditional hollow point, and also its ability to penetrate light barriers and still perform as designed and expand upon impact. The elimination of any lead from the projectile makes it impossible for traditional jacket separation to occur which can cause a lack of performance upon impacting barriers or during initial penetration.
This projectile is on the lighter end of the typical weights you will see for .45 ACP and also features additional powder (+P). This will allow it to achieve greater penetration as it flies 1000 feet per second leaving the muzzle out of a 5 inch barrel. You can expect close to, but not quite that out of a more typical 3-4 inch barrel firearm you may find yourself using for defensive purposes. The 185 grain projectile is able to produce a hefty 411 foot pounds of energy given the combination of its weight and speed.
Not to mention all of that performance is housed in a nickel-plated brass casing, which is ideal for corrosion resistance and reliable, consistent feeding. Use this ammo for your defensive purposes, and rest assured it has what it takes
