- 1000 Rounds of .45 ACP Ammo by Speer - 230gr TMJ
Details
Designed to minimize lead exposure, total metal jacket ammo is the preference for many indoor range shooters, which is why Speer developed the Lawman brand. In addition to the improvement upon the traditional full metal jacket design, Lawman ammo uses clean-burning powders and primers which make this ammo a great option for someone looking to perfect their shooting indoors. Whether you are a better-safe-than-sorry kind of person, or a true enthusiast that cannot get enough practice, this TMJ ammo is a perfect offering for .45 ACP range ammo.
The .45 ACP cartridge when loaded with a 230 grain FMJ or TMJ bullet travels at a velocity of 835 fps. 230 grains is exactly twice the weight of the 9mm Parabellum's traditional 115 grain bullet, so you might say that this is literally twice the round the 9mm is! Speer ammunition is produced in Lewiston, ID and has been popular for self-defense ammunition with the innovative Speer Gold Dot line. If you want to practice with something that feels a lot like Gold Dot, Speer Lawman is as close as it gets for TMJ ammo!

I bought this ammo for range practice. On average for every 50 rounds I've fired 4 rounds fail to feed. I have used many different brands of ball ammo for the range and this is the first time I have ever had an issue with my Sig P220. (Posted on 11/18/2023)

I'm a retired Law Enforcement officer, My former agency used this ammo for qualification and practice for well over a decade. It is very good ammo, I can't ever remember a malfunction in all that time. we used it in Glock 21's. (Posted on 4/8/2018)

I love the Lawman 230gn, .45 acp. One of my favorite factory rounds. I have a 30 year old Kimber Custom, with thousands of rounds and a almost new Ruger SR1911 with just a few hundred. I ran 200 rds of LM through them both them over two range trips with no FF or FE issues. Combat range accuracy is as good as anything else I've tried. Shooting off hand from 7 to 25 yrds produced groups matching other much more expensive ammo. I'm always looking for deals on Lawman. (Posted on 5/13/2017)

the first 50 rounds in my Kimber custom carry II hit a sheet of regular typing paper 15 yards away 42 times. With no miss fire or jam, I was happy with the results when this was the first time I shot a .45 in years and these 50 rounds were shot off hand. further shooting using the top of my deck railing as rest kept hits not only inside the paper but in a fairly tight grouping in the center of the page did not keep tract of much details after first 50 rounds because pistol is not brook in yet and I was having lots of fun with everything working so good (new ammo new pistol) I believe this is very good ammo (Posted on 1/12/2016)

Good rounds, shot just fine in all the pistols I ran it through. Fairly accurate as well, pretty clean considering the comparatively low cost. Also lead free, for those who are green concerned or shoot inside.
Was better when it was cheaper, but what can you do. I got my last box the day before it went up to it's current price, and will probably still buy it at this price. (Posted on 3/17/2013)

I had a box of these and was able to pull the bullet out of the brass by hand. When I checked I could spin almost every bullet in the box. Bad crimping! I had about 5 that the bullet pulled out of the brass when loading, spilling powder in my Kimber.
I am not sure if I had a bad batch, but it may be a while before I try Speer again. (Posted on 3/4/2013)

I have a Sig 1911. I have used this ammo almost exclusively since my gun was new - approximately 1700 rounds. With the exception of 5 rounds or so that were failures to feed when the gun was brand new before it was broken in, every single other round has fed perfectly, fired perfectly, and hit the target consistently in tight groups. That's 1695 perfect rounds, folks - beat that! Quality brass, quality primers, clean firing, no cleanup and absolutely consistent target strikes. This is the perfect ammo for your practicing - buy it while you can, and Speer, please make more of it! I will buy no other practice ammo for my 1911. For my defense loads, when the gun is on duty, I choose Federal Premium Hydra-Shok Hollow Points. (Posted on 8/7/2012)

I shot several 1 inch groups off hand at 10 yards today using a Colt Commander. Consistent and cleaner than most inexpensive Full Metal Jacket ammo.

Q: Anyone used these in an HK45? Already bought some ammo that has a too large of a diameter to work with the HK45 and I would rather not have a repeat.
Posted On: 8/4/2020 By: Nick
A: Hello Nick! I'm afraid we haven't tested this ammo in the HK45 ourselves. For what it's worth, the fellow on the HK Pro forum reports flawless results out of his own HK45 with this exact ammo: hkpro.com/forum/hk-handgun-talk/516228-brand-new-hk45-first-range-trip-issue.html. I wish I could be of greater help!
Q: does this have small primer or large primer?
Posted On: 9/5/2012 By: Kathleen M Coleman
A: This product consists of large pistol primers seated in a boxer-primed casing. The casings are newly manufactured and are great for reloading.
