The 45 Colt cartridge is an all time favorite round within the Cowboy Action Shooting world. Back in the 1800’s, many cowboys used the .45 Colt or .45 Long Colt (45LC) on their ranches and when driving cattle or doing any other possible chores on their homesteads that might need doing. It is a popular Single Action Army revolver round, and it is also widely used in multiple Lever Action rifles and carbines.
Hornady brought out their ‘LEVERevolution’ line of ammo for that exact firearm type. They designed these rounds utilizing their “Flex Tip” technology. The Flex Tip tech can push Hornady rounds up to 250 feet per second faster than other lever-action specific ammo. The patented red polymer tip actively reduces air drag on the tip of the round which gives it a higher ballistic coefficient. LEVERevolution rounds are also designed to be used in the tubular magazines that are common on lever-action rifles, without damaging the bullet. These 45 Colt rounds are topped with Hornady’s 225 grain JHP FTX copper plated, hollow point bullets, and non-corrosive Boxer primed reloadable brass cases. They have a hard-hitting muzzle energy of 460-foot pounds, and a muzzle velocity of 950 feet per second (which makes them subsonic by design).
This 45 LC ammo comes in a 20-round box, so you can get a few, and try them out. If you like them, you can get yourself a bunch more boxes and stock up for your next Cowboy Action event.
