Details

Produced to the US military’s M193 ball ammo specification on government production lines, this full metal jacket 5.56 NATO ammunition enjoys great popularity among AR-15 shooters. This package of 120 rounds includes a reusable steel ammo can. Like other M193 rounds, these Boxer-primed cartridges in new brass achieve a muzzle velocity of 3,240 feet per second using a 55-grain full metal jacketed bullet.

Federal’s 5.56 ammo, marketed under the Federal and American Eagle brands, comes from overproduction at Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, a government facility operated by Alliant Techsystems, parent company of Federal Premium Ammunition. Lake City ammo is perfect for ARs, but may not fire safely in all rifles chambered in .223 Remington. If in doubt, check with the firearm manufacturer for more information.

Lake City Army Ammunition Plant is located in Independence, Missouri. Alliant Techsystems manages the plant under the supervision of the Joint Munitions Command, which is led by a general officer of the United States Army. In one year, the plant produces well over a billion cartridges of ammunition, most of it destined for training and combat use by US service members. Excess production from Lake City is sold to the public and highly prized as range ammo due to its mil-spec provenance and high quality.
