It’s hard to knock the XM193 5.56x45mm FMJNT ammo by Federal American Eagle. In fact it’s perennially one of the bestselling ammunition SKU’s in America.
Most shooters can instantly identify the round if they’ve shot it even once, because typically, the performance and experience is well above average and the price is below the competition from a lot of other brands. This is a 55 grain full metal jacket boat tail projectile that moves out of the bore at 3165 feet per second. The 55 grain bullet works exceptionally well across a wide range of barrel types and twist rates, but it best suited for the 1:8, 1:9 and 1:10 twists that are popular across the board. This round has been proven in millions of settings over the years, not the least of which is combat and combat training (read on). Note that the XM denotes that it is not Milspec, but that may be a bit of a misnomer because it’s made on the same machines and is set for meeting the same specs as the M193 ammunition. The fact that it doesn’t meet the stringent mil specs could be any number of things, most of which make the performance of the rounds negligibly less than that of the ammunition that passed the spec. These are substantially similar to the military specification for the M193.
