Details
AR-15 owners across America have come to know Federal’s “plain
brown box” as a sign of quality. Federal produces this ammunition to NATO
specifications at Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, a US government arsenal in
Missouri. Excess production is sold on the open market, offering shooters the
chance to get mil-spec ammo at a reasonable price.
This ammo delivers the high velocities that M193 ball ammo is known for, propelling the standard 55 grain copper-jacketed bullet at 3240 feet per second (Mach 2.88). Each box contains 20 rounds of bulk packed cartridges featuring sealed, reloadable Boxer-primed brass cases.
Important safety note: This is 5.56x45 NATO ammo and should not be used in a weapon chambered for the lower-pressure .223 Remington cartridge unless the weapon is design to handle both types of ammo. Most AR-15s will fire both types reliably; however, shooters should always consult the manufacturer if in doubt.
Federal, a subsidiary of major defense contractor Alliant Techsystems, operates the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Independence, MO on behalf of the US federal government. Federal has been in the ammo business in 1922 and also produces rimfire and high-end self-defense ammo at its own facility in Anoka, Minnesota.
