Packaged in a reusable plastic ammo can, the cartridges in
this 120-round pack match the specifications of M855 “green tip” ball
ammunition used by the US military. Due to its heavier 62-grain full metal
jacket bullet, the M855-spec cartridge produces a muzzle velocity of 3020 feet
per second, slightly less than M193 ball. All cartridges in this can use
reloadable brass cases.
Federal Premium Ammunition makes this ammo at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Independence, Missouri. Due to actual production sometimes exceeding the military’s demand for ammo, the company frequently sells surplus production to the public under the American Eagle and Federal brands. Lake City ammo is highly sought after due to its milspec characteristics and high quality.
This is 5.56x45 NATO ammunition and should function well in most AR-15s; however, it may not fire safely in all .223 Remington firearms. Check with the manufacturer if in doubt.
Lake City Army Ammunition Plant currently operates under the management of Alliant Techsystems, parent company of Federal Premium Ammunition. Owned by the US government, the plant produces over a billion cartridges every year in addition to conducting various weapon and ammo tests. Over 14,000 people work at the plant, which belongs to the Joint Munitions Command, a part of the United States Army Materiel Command.
