Building the ultimate 5.56x45 long-distance shooting rig takes time, skill, and plenty of high-end parts. But why go through all that trouble if you’re not firing match-grade long-distance target ammo while you’re at it?
If you’re trying to squeeze as much precision as possible out of your ammo, then you ought to look no further than this 5.56 by Black Hills Ammunition. All branches of the U.S. Armed Forces currently purchase match ammo by Black Hills because it is expertly loaded with the highest-quality components: precision-formed and visibly annealed brass cases, match-grade Boxer primers that ignite like well-oiled clockwork, and propellant that combusts at the ideal rate for optimal long-range performance.
This round’s bullet is the real star of the show. Its hulking 77 grain weight means it achieves a lower muzzle velocity and requires a 1:8” or faster barrel twist, but the heavier bullet boasts outstanding resistance to interference by cross and vertical winds. The OTM’s evenly thick jacket has a hollow point nose cavity in its tip – not to enable terminal expansion, but rather because its lead core was injection-molded into place. That’s why the OTM’s rotational stability is so excellent, but also why its terminal ballistics are fundamentally identical to those of a conventional FMJ.

Q: I typically shoot 55/62 grain 556 . Will the 77 grain Black Hills ammunition cause any issues .? Thanks

A: No sir, this ammo will fit in a standard magazine and feed normally. You will notice the best accuracy out of a barrel with a 1:8 or 1:7 twist, but a 1:9 twist should also be serviceable.
Q: Will the projectile attract a magnet?

A: Hello Dave,
This ammunition is loaded with a lead core, copper jacketed projectile and contains no steel. Due to the bullet construction, this ammunition will pass a magnet test.
