Details
Made for Federal at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Lake City, Missouri, this cartridge is known as XM33. The M33 is a reference to the specific variation of .50 BMG this represents. The first.50 BMG ball ammunition was M2, which was slightly heavier at 707 grains. When M2 Tracer was replaced by M8 Tracer, the ballistics no longer matched, and therefore a new ball cartridge was born. The M33 is a lighter bullet than its M2 brother and has been manufactured since 1951 during the Korean War. As .50 BMG was used primarily in heavy machine gun platforms as an anti-aircraft round, ammunition belts included strategically placed tracer rounds to give the gunner a visual guide on their aim.
Now the M33 is one of the world's best known sniper cartridges. It has a maximum range of 7400 meters, or about 4.6 miles. The 660 grain full-metal jacket projectile is loaded in a boxer-primed brass case.

Decent ammo, but the necks crack at firing, so not good for reloading. (Posted on 5/9/2018)

Jams in chamber after fire: Bolt Action Sig/Tac 50. If you don't mind pounding the bolt back, after fire, this is the cheap ammo for you. (Posted on 6/20/2017)

Target shoot this through my 82A1 weekly. If there is. Inside red such a thing as 'plinking' ammo for a .50cal, then this is it. (Posted on 4/23/2016)

Military ammo, manufactured for defense use is marked with the M-xxx designator, i.e. M-33, M-195 etc. This M designator means that this particular lot has been tested and meets minimal mil-spec criteria. Those lots marked XM-xxx like the XM-33, XM-195 and so forth, have not met those critical mil-spec standards, usually timed from the firing pin striking the primer until the round fires... this spec is necessary for proper performance in full automatic weapons. The civilian market, for the most part is NOT concerned with high cycle rates so the millisecond difference in our weapons is not nearly as critical and therefore the XM ammo will perform perfectly fine for our general use. I personally shoot a .50BMG 5 shot bolt action rifle at 1000 + yards and after over 25000 rounds of mixed bag, XM-33 and M-33 ball have YET to have a single malfunction or difference in performance for my application. This American Eagle Brand is usually Lake City brass and made to all mil-spec except for aforementioned performance deviation. The spent brass is excellent for reloading after sizing and usually does not need to be trimmed until a few reuses. Great stuff to use, recommended and use it for fun or really splattering the Zombies ! (Posted on 12/4/2013)
