Details
Made in Anoka, MN, Federal American Eagle ammunition is highly sought after range ammunition. This particular offering is an enhanced version featuring a 124 grain Total Metal Jacket projectile to prevent lead exposure. Ordinary full metal jacket bullets have exposed lead at the base, but TMJ bullets are in improvement on this by totally encapsulating the lead core in a copper jacket. Federal also uses primers that are free of toxic metals and clean burning powders to make this an excellent range ammo for indoor range training.
Many Law Enforcement professionals who are required to practice their marksmanship frequently use TMJ ammo with clean powders and primers as the exposure to potentially harmful materials is far greater indoors than outdoors. American Eagle ammo comes in new brass cases with Boxer primers made by Federal and sister company CCI.

Q: How are FMJ and TMJ different? Is range likely to prefer customer to shoot one over another?
Posted On: 6/22/2013 By: Question Man
A: There are little to no differences between the TMJ and the FMJ bullet when it comes to the shooting experience. However, the TMJ bullet extends the jacket around the base of the bullet, which is normally not done with a FMJ bullet. With the extended jacket covering the base of the bullet, the lead core is no longer exposed.
Most ranges are not particular between the two, though it seems non toxic and lead free ammo are becoming more popular for indoor ranges in 2013. This may vary from range to range. With the interest of lead exposure in mind, these non toxic rounds would be preferred over the regular FMJ rounds.
