The Federal P9HST2 is one of the top duty rounds carried by American Law Enforcement agencies. The projectile is subsonic at 147 grains and has proven to have better penetration performance than the 115 grain or 124 grain HST loads. Federal designed the signature HST ammunition with consistent and impressive expansion in mind. A technique called skiving is used to make six slight incisions on the lead-lined copper jacket of the hollow-point bullet enhances its expansion properties. Tests show that the bullet will typically double in diameter without much separation. The packaging for the ammo shows an expanded P9HST2 projectile. This greatly increases the surface area of the projectile as it penetrates the target, and significantly reduces the likelihood of collateral damage beyond the target.
Federal HST ammunition is manufactured in Anoka, Minnesota. The HST Tactical line is marketed to Law Enforcement and is infrequently available commercially. This variety is loaded to standard pressure for 9mm ammo. The sharp contrast of the nickel-plated casings with the copper jackets make this a fine looking cartridge that you won't confuse with your ordinary range ammo.
