Hornady is a phenomenal manufacturer of great, effective, hard hitting 9x19 ammunition and bullets. They are a household name because they make a broad array of ammunition for a lot of different applications, from hunting to duty.

Critical Duty is a line of ammunition born out of a need, a need realized on countless inner city streets, dusty back roads, highways and interstates. LEO often engage with hostiles who use cover, or are in vehicles. Officers found a need for ammunition which can penetrate like FMJ ball bullets, yet retains the expansion quality and stopping power of JHP. But the two seem incompatible.

Through the use of modern, advanced polymer materials, Hornady has found a way to do the impossible. In this case, they have taken a 124 grain 9mm bonded jacketed hollow point (JHP) and filled the cavity with polymer which is fairly hard but not so hard as to curtail projectile expansion.

Critical Duty ammunition has the distinct ability to punch through glass without ricochet, as well as thin metals such as vehicle skins, and light building materials without deformation. Traditional JHPs penetrate great into soft tissue but very poorly against the aforementioned materials which is a real problem in dangerous duty conditions.

If you are buying for your department, this is the way to go. It is a great selection for your team to ensure they have the right ammunition to stay safe under all conditions, and buying bulk in our 250 round cases offers the best savings on tight department budgets.

A: The +P seen on this, and other brands of ammo states that the powder charge is loaded to a higher pressure than normal for this caliber. This is commonly seen on defensive ammo featuring a Jacketed Hollow Point bullet. However, a JHP bullet will not indicate a +P round.
